Shapes review

This week we only had one class (MLK day was Monday) so I did more shapes review.
I cut out a bunch of shapes from different colors of construction paper and spread them around the room. Then I asked each child to find the shape I called. For example, I would say: "Encuentra (Find) el cuadrado azul (blue square). It was a great way to review shapes and colors.
When we were done we counted how many of each shapes we had (how many circles) and we matched it with the correct number. That way we not only practiced shapes and colors we also practiced numbers!

Free printouts

I just added new free printouts in my website (go to Materials, Free Printouts and click View Printout to get the PDF file) and Wikisori. Check them out!

Shapes

This week we are working on shapes. I made "shape finders'. It was a lot of fun for the children to look for shapes around the classroom. I am making a set for the regular Montessori classroom for them to use while I am no there. For a free printout go to my website or Wikisori (Worksheets/Printouts/Spanish). Here are some pictures.

Feelings: activity

Here are the pictures for the feelings activities we did in the classroom. I loved the ones the children made but, they also enjoy the ones where they can select the parts of the face and glue them. Great practice for parts of the face, we included cabello (hair) and orejas (ears).

Favorite sites

I just added a few sites that I really love.
Treehouse Languages: My website, where you can find materials and more.
Wikisori: A wonderful site where you can learn all about Montessori and a great resource for parents and teachers.
Oriental Trading: Great source for cheap materials.

Feelings

This was my first lesson of 2010.
We've already had a lesson on feelings last year so, it was a review for most of them. I used my faces flashcards, and I got pictures from magazines that show people faces, cut them out and glued them to cardboard.
I showed them to the children and ask them to tell me which feeling the picture showed. Then, I put the pictures face down on my rug and ask one child to find a feliz face. The child opened a picture and I would ask: Is that feliz? Es feliz? The child would answer Si or No. We continued until the child found the feliz face. Then each child had a turn.
For the next class I printed my feelings activity and we make faces for the following feelings: feliz, triste, enojado, sorprendido and asustado. Each child got to take one face home.
We also created a poster for the classroom. We draw each feelings on paper. The children love to draw, each had the opportunity to draw parts of the face. I will post pictures on Monday.
That's all for this week lessons. Remember keep it simple! I will ;)

Happy 2010!

Sorry I haven't blog for a few weeks but life got busy. Between the kids school baking, holiday celebrations, new puppy and more...I've been away from my laptop; even from Facebook which according to my husband I need Facebook anonymous!
This 2010 I have decided to take it simple!
Yes! Simple.
That goes for everything I do. I realize that every time I have an idea I just complicate it too much soo, this year I will do things the simple way.
This was my first week back at school. My first lesson was a review of Feelings and yes, I made it simple. Check the post on that lesson for more information.
Soon!
