Shapes

We reviewed shapes last week. As I was cleaning my house I came upon a heart balloon that we got from grandma for Valentine's day (yes, I still have it although it's been more than a month). That give me an idea! I walked in each room and look at everything and found some items with our basic shapes. Some of the items I found? Here are some examples. From my son's room: a football, a yo-yo, a ruler, an airplane. From my daughter's room: a wand with a star, a necklace with hearts, a doll party hat, a picture frame.
I reviewed shapes with the flashcards and then showed the children the objects I found around the house, i asked to find something in their bedroom that have the shape of a triangle and let me know what is it the next class. Some of them were very excited the following class when they share their findings, some even brought the item to show their friends!
I also got an elastic cord and made shapes with the help of the children, this activity was a lot of fun for all of us.

Opposites

This week we are learning opposites: up-down, right-left, front-back. We all stand up and raised our arms and said "arriba", then we bent down and touched our toes while we said "abajo".
We took one step to the front for " adelante", one step back for "atras". Then, we moved one step right for "derecha" and one step left for "izquierda".
The children thought it was so much fun. We did it first very slowly then, we did it faster and faster. It was fun for all of us! I have to confess that after 7 classes I was soo tired and today I am a little sore :)

Places to go

Today we talked about Places to go, I tied it to last week lesson (Community Heroes) by teaching them: hospital, police station, fire station and school; next class we'll review vocabulary by matching community heroes with places to go.

Community heroes

This week we talked about community heroes: police office, firefighter, doctor, nurse, dentist and teacher. I printed coloring pages of the following: police id batch, police hat, firefighter hat, fire hydrant, dalmatian, hose, needle, toothbrush, toothpaste, tooth, chalk, white board, fire truck, ambulance, police car. Then the children sort them out. I didn't translate each item, only the ones the children asked for.
After we reviewed actions/verbs. I choose to play dominos and the children loved it! See my website for actions/verbs dominos or you can make your own.
