Last month of school!

I've been really busy at home, we're building a pool so, all my spare time goes to do research on line or driving around from place to place, selecting tile and more.
Anyways, for the last month of school I will be reviewing all vocabulary using games combining two or more themes in the games. Last week I did bingo, this week Candyland, I haven't planned next week but I will be using my games book for the next 3 weeks. I will post pictures this weekend.
Also, the children and I are practicing 3 songs for our end of the year program: 1, 2, 3 amigos, dos ranitas tengo & Sr. Caiman (fingerplay).

Birds

The kindergarten children will go to the zoo at the end of the month. We've been studying animals in the zoo. I made a special theme on birds since the zoo they are visiting have a lot of them!
I printed coloring pages on the following animals: flamingo, owl, swan, toucan, eagle and turkey. Used them as my flashcards and then have the children color them. in order to pick one, they have to say the bird in Spanish. It worked pretty good and the children still remember them after a couple of weeks. Here are the pictures:

Material findings!!

Hi all!

I am always in the search for new and exciting materials to practice Spanish with my children. I decided to post some of the stuff I found for you to take advantage. Feel free to share if you find something you think we all can use.

I just went to Michael's and here's what I found in the $1 bin.

Faces sticker book, has 282 stickers!!! great for parts of the face, also you can use it to create family puppets or feelings.

Numbers bingo, great for numbers practice and the kids love it!

And the best of all for a dollar each! Other good stores to try are the Dollar store, Walmart and the Target $1 bin. Good luck hunting!

New shapes activities for immediate download!!

Shapes practice

We continued our practice on shapes last week.
First, we reviewed shapes with the children using the shapes flashcards. Then for the fun practice activity I had several shapes on card stock paper in different colors, I started showing each shape and having the children called out the shape, color and size, then I set the shapes on top of the rug, one next to each other. I grabbed the first shape, called it, for example: "un cuadrado azul grande", then I put it in the center of the rug, then called a second shape to form the animal I wanted to make. The children were trying to guess what I was making and they were coming up with great ideas on what to make next.
When I started this activity I had only 4 ideas on what to make with shapes, by the time I ended I came up with double that number, thanks to the children suggestions!

This activity is great for introducing sentences and for review on colors, shapes and sizes.
You can cut your own shapes; use different colors and different sizes, as you can see in the pictures below you don't have to worry about colors, just mix and match and have the children come with creative ideas, you'll be surprise of the things they come up with! I would recommend to laminate each shape, I didn't and some are bended and some have some stains I refuse to identify :)

Colors practice

This week I continued with the numbers practice, I used the labels and number flashcards. The children made a number and then labeled it. We also practiced colors.

For the colors practice I used Pick-up sticks. I found ones at Target $1 bin a few months back and they're colored. It's a fun game and the children will call out the color of the stick they'll pick-up!

The rules are simple: Pick up one stick at a time without moving any of the other sticks ... of course we didn't quite enforce this rule with the preschoolers :), remember to have them call out the color of the stick they pick up!!
